A Review of the 'Aarni/Umbra Nihil Split' by Cannibal Gore

This is a split CD of two bands from Finland. Both bands are very experimental and very dark. The first six songs are courtesy of Aarni, a very experimental and nihilistic band. They play doom in the vein of Opeth, Piirparke and Maudlin of The Well with many nihilistic and psychotic sounds. Aarni's music is so psychotic that your brain and your soul will explore new worlds and new dimensions, it is like a drug (maybe LSD). The other five songs are those of Umbra Nihil. This band plays funeral doom, with influences of Katatonia and My Dying Bride, but they are more melodic and more sinister and dark. The result is a very melancholic and nihilistic sound. Both Aarni and Umbra Nihil will no doubt become cult bands in the future.
